The beaches of Los Urrutias, Los Nietos and Playa Honda have as of this Thursday, August 13, a free Wi-Fi service installed by the Cartagena City Council within the measures to improve services in the towns of the southern Mar Menor. The service has been activated as a pilot project of the European Wifi4Eu program granted last month to the city council, as explained by the deputy mayor, Noelia Arroyo.
“ Among our proposals for service improvements to help the economic recovery of the towns of the Mar Menorand, especially, of the beaches, it was to provide them with a Wi-Fi service, but the competition laws do not allow speeds higher than 256 kilobites. That is why we have chosen and achieved a European program that offers us legal coverage to increase the speed to 30 megabytes, which provide a good service to neighbors and vacationers, ”said Arroyo.
The antennas have been located in the social premises of Los Urrutias , at the height of the Los Nietos yacht club and on the beach promenade of Playa Honda. Each pole provides coverage within a 200 meter radius and an internet connection with a speed of 30 megabytes.
The Department of Sustainable City and European Projects achieved for the City of Cartagena last July one of the bonds of the fourth and last call of the European program WIFI4EU, promoted by the Executive Agency for Innovation and Networks (INEA), for the installation of Wi-Fi areas in public spaces. Technicians from that council and from the Data Processing Center are already working on the development of the proposed project and previous facilities and new equipment have been used to advance the service to citizens this summer as a pilot experience of the program.
So far, the city council offers Wi-Fi connections inside municipal buildings, specifically in the five libraries and the La Manga tourist office
